Sound Painting

Last week we talked about how to turn down sound that we don’t need to hear while we are in stillness. We also talked a little about playing with sound by adding back in the sounds that help you be in your stillness. I want to talk more about adding sound back in. I have the unique opportunity to be able to play with sound while I work for my clients. I want you to get still on my table. I’ll take you through a session.

Before you get to my studio for your appointment I’ve begun the process of removing sounds that might distract us. I want you to be 100% still so that we can find all of the pain connections and begin healing them. If there is a noise in the distance outside or perhaps drifting downstairs I will turn on some white noise on my little sound machine. Sometimes if the room feels cool I will turn on an electric heater. I will anticipate your temperature so that you will feel warm and safe and not distracted by feeling any discomfort.

Now I start painting with sound. I love to float so of course as I write I listen to the floating sound painting I’ve created. I have been using sleep sounds from Sleep Jar and some of my own. I want you to feel one of two things: you are floating on everything, water, air, and clouds, or you are falling into a deep healing sleep. The other painting is the one my dad and I refer to as the anesthetic. You will know which painting feels right to you.

Floating is composed of ocean waves, sailboat, lake, and wind chimes. I have a couple of different ways of controlling the volume on the sounds so that they harmonize perfectly. I am not gone but I am definitely in another world. I am present enough to know I am being healed even doing stretching and being mindful of my breathing.

The anesthetic consists of the space deck sound which I think sounds like my dreams, then the second layer is the underwater sound. I like the thought of sleeping deeply with sounds that are moving like currents. The third layer is the cavern sound. It is a little bit lighter, but still quiet and calm. Sometimes I will lace it with just a touch of Gregorian Chant or Tibetan bowls. It’s really cool when my chimes go off outside. I have some wonderful local chimes and I love the noise that they make especially when they add color to my sound paintings. I want you to receive healing body work in stillness.

Soon you will be able to add sound painting to your massage. I can create one for you or we can do it together. I have also been using the sound colors from my healing sound bowls and I am constantly learning what sounds I can use that are my own. I don’t just receive body work to my sound paintings. I write while listening to them. I trade stocks with them in the background and any other work I need to do.

We will be adding them as a service soon. Stay tuned for some more exciting news!
