Be Still During Uncertain Times
Uncertainty — it’s a word I’m frankly tired of hearing. I hear it when analysts talk about the stock market. I hear it when people discuss the current state of our nation — uncertainty brought on by our leaders and a country more divided than I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime. There’s uncertainty about our jobs, our finances, and for some of us, our families, our health, and our relationships.
Uncertainty has crept into so many parts of my life that I had to step away for a while. It’s been nearly crippling at times. How could I write about navigating life in stillness when it felt like the pause button had been pressed on everything? How could I keep walking the road toward my dreams when there were so many closures, delays, and forks in the road that I no longer knew which path to take?
Living in uncertainty is one of the hardest feelings to deal with. For someone like me—who is always chasing what I want—it feels like being stuck in the mud. Life has dragged on this way for months. When things stop moving forward, uncertainty often turns into doubt about the things we were once so sure of. Everything feels suspended in midair, like being stuck at the top of a Ferris wheel for too long. I’m ready to get off!
The best piece of advice I can give is to hold tightly to the things that are precious to you. I kept going. I made new friends. I woke up each day and did what I love more than anything.
A shift is coming. My family’s health is improving. I’m becoming stronger and healing in new ways all the time. I realize now—I’m no longer walking through the mud. I’m walking freely toward something new: certainty.
I can breathe easier, and sleep easier, too. I won’t ignore the signs around me. My intuition is my guide. I see the signs on the road—new friendships, new opportunities, new ways to be myself more fully every day.
I am back.
